On 11 February 2026, the CAREMED – Community-based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health project officially launched its activities in Kerkena, Sfax governorate, Tunisia, during the first meeting of the Local Thematic Committees, held at the Ramla Primary Health Care Centre.
The session was opened by representatives of the Direction des Soins de Santé de Base (DSSB), CAREMED project partner, who highlighted that the project aims to reinforce primary health care resilience, focusing on the prevention of non-communicable diseases, improved management of chronic conditions, and the development of community-based care.
The meeting marked a key milestone in the project’s implementation in Tunisia, bringing together local health stakeholders around a shared objective: strengthening the resilience of primary health care by placing prevention, patients, and communities at the centre of action.
Discussions focused on the project’s main strategic pillars, including prevention, a patient-centred approach, chronic care models, and the strengthening of proximity-based services. Particular attention was given to the role of Kerkena’s primary health care centres, the development of home visits, and collaboration with local and community actors.
Representatives of local health structures expressed their support and commitment to the successful implementation of CAREMED, acknowledging its potential positive impact on the primary health care system.
