GREENOLIVE WORKSHOP: RENEWABLE ENERGY HEAT FOR INDUSTRIAL DECARBONIZATION

07.05.2026 @10:00 - 13:00

07.05.2026 @ 10:00 - 13:00

Industrial heat is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonize. A morning workshop in Almería brings together researchers, industry, and government to discuss real solutions: solar process heat, thermal energy storage, and Power‑to‑Heat, plus the funding pathways to make them happen.

Location: Paraninfo lecture hall, University of Almería (Carr. Sacramento, s/n, 04120 La Cañada, Almería, Spain)

Registration: https://lnkd.in/e_nwfqxU (required for attendance)

Organisers

The workshop is organised by CIEMAT (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas) and CIESOL (Solar Energy Research Centre, a joint centre of the University of Almería and CIEMAT-PSA), with the support of the GREENOLIVE project.

Technical scope

Renewable heat for industry is a well‑understood technical challenge, but deployment remains slow. The workshop will cover:

− Solar process heating and thermal energy storage (TES): recent advances, practical constraints, and what works at scale.

− Power‑to‑Heat (P2H): converting solar electricity into high‑temperature industrial heat, with a focus on system integration and efficiency.

− Policy and funding: what support (European, national, regional) is available for industries looking to decarbonise their heat supply.

− Local industrial needs: a roundtable to define what industries in the region actually need from renewable heat technologies, and what barriers still stand in the way.

Agenda

10:00 – Welcome to UAL and Introduction

10:20 – GREENOLIVE project presentation

10:35 – P2H technical session

10:55 – Municipality / regional government authority: what supports can the industry obtain from the government (european, national, regional)?

11:10 – Coffee break

12:00 – Sharing experiences in P2H

12:30 – Defining (local) industrial needs: round table discussion

13:00 – Closing remarks
