The Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), in partnership with Greater Tafila Municipality, launched 18th May, the JADEITE project at Rummana Camp in the Dana Biosphere Reserve.

The launch of the JADEITE project, attended by Tafila Governor Dr. Sultan Al-Madi, comes within the framework of strengthening participatory approaches in local development and consolidating cooperation among various stakeholders, contributing to supporting the path toward a just green transition and responding to the needs of local communities within a framework of comprehensive and sustainable governance.

JOHUD, representative Ahmad Al-Qatamin, emphasized that the JADEITE project represents a strategic step toward empowering local communities. He explained that the green transition cannot be achieved without effective participation from local communities, which the project seeks to realize through providing a participatory platform that ensures citizens are engaged in the developmental decision-making process. He added that JOHUD leads the work package related to developing participatory governance methodologies, reflecting its commitment to enhancing transparency and building practical models applicable at both the local and regional levels.

For his part, the Head of the Greater Tafila Municipality Committee, Dr. Mohammad Al-Karimeen, stressed the importance of the JADEITE project in supporting sustainable development efforts in the governorate. He affirmed that the project represents a genuine opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the municipality, local communities, and international partners, contributing to improving quality of life and developing services through a sustainable approach. He said: “Today, we stand before a concept that is no longer an intellectual luxury or merely an environmental slogan, but rather a civilizational, economic, and humanitarian necessity at a time when the world is rapidly changing, resources are declining, and cities are facing increasing pressures related to energy, water, waste, and pollution.”

He added that the just green transition means moving toward an environmentally friendly economy and development model in a way that preserves social justice, protects vulnerable groups, creates new job opportunities, and ensures a fair distribution of gains and responsibilities. He pointed out that municipalities can serve as the true starting point for this transformation through smart waste management, expansion of renewable energy, protection of green spaces, encouragement of environmental investment and sustainable tourism, and transforming environmental challenges into economic and developmental opportunitiesHe further emphasized that the green transition has become a necessity rather than a choice, focusing on shifting economies from dependence on fossil fuels toward models based on renewable energy and efficiency, while ensuring fair distribution.

The launch ceremony was attended by President of Tafila Technical University Dr. Hassan Al-Shalabi, Head of the Governorate Council Committee Mustafa Al-Awran, President of the Tafila Chamber of Commerce Ouda Allah Al-Qteitat, Director of Agriculture in Tafila Eng. Bilal Al-Heloul, Head of the Joint Services Council Jawad Al-Atiyoui, in addition to representatives of official institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners.
