During International Compost Awareness Week 2026, the BETA Technological Centre (UVic‑UCC), partner of the MEDWISE project, joined an initiative promoted by the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC) to set up a compost self-service point at the entrance of the centre in Vic. The action was part of a broader awareness effort to bring compost and circularity closer to everyday life and to invite local residents to take compost home for their gardens, plant pots or green spaces.
The point was available to the public from 4 to 8 May, from 9:00 to 17:00, at the BETA Technological Centre premises on Carretera de Roda, 70, in Vic. A key visual element of the initiative was the compost itself.
Beyond distributing compost, the initiative also helped open conversations with visitors about where compost comes from, why separate collection of the organic fraction matters and how composting contributes to keeping biodegradable waste out of landfills. In this sense, the self-service point served as a simple but effective way to translate MEDWISE’s technical work into a tangible, local and public-facing action.
The activity is consistent with the project’s work in Les Masies de Roda, where MEDWISE is following a decentralised community composting system to better understand how such solutions operate in practice and how they can be supported over time. By taking part in ARC’s initiative during Compost Awareness Week, MEDWISE strengthens its commitment to combining technical work on organic waste with simple, accessible outreach actions for citizens.
