On 28 April, a strategic meeting was held in Tunis within the framework of the CAREMED project. The meeting brought together the Directorate of Primary Health Care (DSSB) and the Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria (ICU), both CAREMED partners, together with the Information Technology Center of the Tunisian Ministry of Health (CIMS).

The CAREMED Project – Community-based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health is co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme and led by the Meyer University Hospital.

The meeting marked an important step forward for the digitalisation activities in Tunisia. Discussions focused on the future integration of the Digital Medical Record (DMI) platform into CAREMED pilot activities targeting patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Zaghouan, Kerkennah, Sidi Bouzid, and Tataouine.

Building on the experience developed in healthcare facilities in Nabeul through the EU-funded “Essaha Aziza” project, participants explored the possibility of extending the existing digital platform to 20 additional healthcare centres within the CAREMED framework.

During the meeting, partners reviewed key technical, logistical, and operational aspects required for the implementation of the DMI system, including IT equipment needs, connectivity challenges, healthcare staff training, technical supervision, and long-term sustainability.

The exchange also contributed to strengthening coordination among partners and aligning implementation strategies for the upcoming pilot phase. Concrete next steps were identified, including the mobilisation of regional health authorities to support implementation at the local level.

By fostering cooperation between national institutions, technical experts, and project partners, CAREMED contributes to improving access to more integrated and digitally enabled healthcare services in Tunisia.
