The first local workshop of the ORIENTATE Project, titled “From Residue to Resource: Building Local Circular Bioeconomy Capacity through ORIENTATE”, will take place on 4 June 2026 from 10:00 to 13:00 (Turkey Time), hosted by Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University.

Organised within the framework of the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, the workshop will be held in a hybrid format at the KSU Rectorate Conference Hall and online, allowing the active participation of ORIENTATE project partners and stakeholders from across the Mediterranean region.

The event aims to transform the ORIENTATE vision into a concrete local agenda focused on circular bioeconomy, agri-waste valorisation, capacity building and sustainable regional development. Bringing together representatives from academia, public institutions, SMEs, cooperatives, civil society organisations and youth networks, the workshop will create an interactive space for dialogue, collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Participants will explore how agricultural and food-processing residues can be transformed into valuable resources and innovative circular economy opportunities for the region. The programme will include thematic discussions on local agri-waste mapping, circular value chains, training and capacity-building needs, as well as future job shadowing and mobility opportunities within the ORIENTATE framework.

A special online contribution will also be delivered by Alessandro Pernice, who will share insights from the ORIENTATE project pilots and highlight the importance of Mediterranean cooperation in supporting sustainable innovation and regional resilience.

Throughout the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to contribute to four thematic working tables addressing:

  • Local agri-waste potential and resource mapping
  • Circular value chain opportunities and residue valorisation
  • Capacity building and training needs for local stakeholders
  • Target groups and preparation for future ORIENTATE learning and job shadowing activities

The workshop represents an important milestone for the ORIENTATE Project, strengthening local engagement while promoting cooperation between regional actors and Mediterranean partners. The outcomes of the event are expected to support future project activities, stakeholder networking and the development of practical solutions for a more sustainable and circular agri-food ecosystem.

All interested stakeholders, institutions and participants are warmly invited to join the workshop online and become part of this collaborative initiative for sustainable regional transformation.
