On 3 June 2026, the Drama Chamber of Commerce and Industry successfully hosted the first Local Stakeholder Group Meeting of the SMAC – Sustainability Model for Accommodation MSMEs project, co-funded by the Interreg NEXT MED Programme.

The event was co-hosted and facilitated by the Drama Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as Lead Partner of the project, and the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), the project’s scientific and technical partner responsible for the development of the SSMA framework and the AIRET AI Recommendation Tool.

The meeting brought together representatives of accommodation businesses, tourism stakeholders and academic institutions to discuss the future of sustainability in the hospitality sector and contribute to the development of innovative support tools for accommodation SMEs.

Participants were introduced to the project’s two flagship outputs: the SSMA (Simplified Sustainability Model for Accommodation MSMEs) and the AIRET (AI Recommendation Tool), designed to help small accommodation businesses assess their sustainability performance and receive tailored recommendations for improvement.

The event featured presentations, live demonstrations and interactive discussions, allowing stakeholders to actively contribute to the design and functionality of the project’s tools. Through a dedicated consultation session, participants shared valuable insights on the practical needs of accommodation SMEs, the usability of AI-driven sustainability recommendations and the future implementation of the model within the hospitality sector.

The feedback collected during the meeting will directly support the further development of both the SSMA and AIRET tools, ensuring that they remain practical, accessible and responsive to the realities faced by tourism businesses across the Mediterranean region.

The SMAC partnership would like to thank all participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions. Their expertise and feedback are essential in shaping innovative solutions that will support the green transition, resilience and competitiveness of accommodation SMEs.

Stay tuned for more updates as SMAC continues to build a more sustainable and resilient future for the hospitality sector across the Mediterranean.
