As a Gold Sponsor of Clay Day 2026, the AMOS Clay Lab research group from the project partner, the University of Catania, presented the vision, objectives, and first achievements of the EONANOBIOPS project through a contribution delivered by researchers Giuseppe CinĂ  and Serena Riela.

The presentation introduced the project’s mission to transform Mediterranean natural resources into innovative and sustainable solutions for agriculture. EONANOBIOPS focuses on combining plant-derived essential oils, clay-based nanomaterials, and advanced nanoformulation technologies to develop a new generation of eco-friendly nano-biopesticides. These innovative solutions aim to improve pest control efficiency while reducing environmental impact and supporting more sustainable farming practices throughout the Mediterranean region.

Participants were also introduced to the first results achieved by the international consortium, with particular emphasis on the research activities carried out at the University of Catania. These activities include the selection and characterization of Mediterranean essential oils and their incorporation into advanced delivery systems such as clay carriers, solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), and gel-based formulations designed to enhance the stability, effectiveness, and controlled release of bio-based pest control products.

The event provided an important opportunity to demonstrate the potential of clay-based nanomaterials in developing next-generation crop protection solutions, while fostering knowledge exchange, strengthening scientific collaboration, and promoting innovative approaches to sustainable agriculture across the Mediterranean.
