In Sardinia, the Province of Oristano has joined the collaboration framework promoted by MedRESOURCE through its Environment and Productive Activities Department – Water, Hygiene and Prophylaxis Service, reinforcing the institutional dimension of the user-centered Living Lab for innovative environmental platform in the Arborea and Gulf of Oristano area.

The collaboration is particularly relevant due to the fact that the provincial institution has, according to the normative, the responsibilities in environmental monitoring and control activities related to water protection and the implementation of measures within the Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ). These functions make the Province of Oristano a key stakeholder in addressing one of the central challenges tackled by MedRESOURCE: improving nutrient management while reducing environmental pressures on vulnerable agricultural territories.

Through this collaboration, the project Living Lab, integrated with real-life communities and dedicated to needs, will benefit from a stronger connection between pilot experimentation, regulatory requirements and territorial governance. Particular attention will be devoted to assessing how nutrient recovery solutions can support environmental objectives while remaining consistent with the provisions governing nitrate management, monitoring and compliance.

The Province will also contribute to stakeholder dialogue and capacity-building activities, helping to ensure that the knowledge generated through MedRESOURCE is aligned with local needs and can effectively support future decision-making processes concerning nutrient management, water protection and circular economy strategies.

The involvement of the Province of Oristano further strengthens the multi-level governance approach promoted by MedRESOURCE, creating closer links between research, public authorities and local stakeholders in support of sustainable nutrient management across the Mediterranean.
