As part of its commitment to promoting sustainable resource management and strengthening institutional cooperation, the Palestinian Wastewater Engineers Group (PWEG), Lead Partner of the MedRESOURCE project, held a productive meeting with the Water Sector Regulatory Council (WSRC) in Palestine.
The meeting provided an opportunity to present the objectives and ongoing activities of MedRESOURCE, which seeks to transform wastewater sludge into valuable resources for agriculture. Discussions focused on the importance of advancing synergies between technical institutions, regulators and stakeholders to ensure that sustainable sludge management practices are supported by effective governance, transparency and evidence-based decision-making.
Indeed, the Water Sector Regulatory Council plays a key role in the Palestinian water sector through its mandate to promote transparency, accountability, fairness and cooperation among stakeholders. Its responsibilities in monitoring and regulating water and wastewater services make the Council an important institutional actor in supporting the long-term sustainability and replicability of innovative environmental solutions promoted by MedRESOURCE.
Through this engagement, PWEG aims to strengthen the connection between technical innovation, environmental protection and the governance sector. Particular attention was given to the potential contribution of the project to improve resource efficiency, by promoting circular economy principles, supporting enhancing soil quality and encouraging the safe reuse of wastewater-derived products in agriculture.
The meeting also explored opportunities for future cooperation in awareness raising, stakeholder engagement and knowledge-sharing activities, ensuring that project results contribute to national priorities and support informed decision-making within the water and environmental contest.
This collaboration further reinforces MedRESOURCE’s multi-stakeholder approach by bringing together technical experts, public institutions and regulators to advance sustainable water and environmental management practices in Palestine and across the Mediterranean region.
