Discover the fascinating world of beekeeping through PLANBEE
The PLANBEE project has officially launched its first Beginner Beekeeping Training Programme in Cyprus, marking an important milestone in the project’s efforts to strengthen the Bee Economy across the Mediterranean.
The training programme is designed for individuals with no previous beekeeping experience and introduces participants to modern beekeeping through an innovative combination of practical instruction, simulation exercises and digital mixed-reality learning tools. By making beekeeping more accessible and engaging, the programme aims to attract new generations of beekeepers while promoting sustainable practices and entrepreneurship.
The first training course will be delivered over two full-day sessions on 11 and 18 July 2026 at OASIS Restaurant & Venue in Choirokoitia, Cyprus. The programme will be led by Christina Christodoulou, Agronomist, Organic Farmer, Beekeeper and experienced trainer in agriculture and beekeeping.
During the 16-hour programme, participants will gain essential knowledge on bee biology, hive management, hive products, sustainable beekeeping practices and the vital role of bees in biodiversity conservation and food production. The programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical learning methods, providing participants with a strong foundation for future involvement in the sector, whether professionally or as a personal interest.
The training is implemented with the support of the Pancyprian Association of Beekeepers, while participants who successfully complete the programme will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
This initiative represents the first in a series of specialised capacity-building activities that PLANBEE will implement across its partner regions. In the coming months, Cyprus will also host:
Participants who successfully complete at least 75% of either the Beginners or the Advanced Beekeeping Training, as well as at least 75% of the Entrepreneurial Skills Training, will be encouraged to apply for the project’s competitive Tailored Services Voucher Scheme, expected to be launched later in 2026. Through this scheme, selected bee entrepreneurs will receive personalised business support services valued at up to €5,000, helping them strengthen and grow their businesses. It is clarified that participation in the training programs does not automatically ensure selection in the Scheme, as the beneficiaries will be selected through an open call, in accordance with the eligibility criteria and the evaluation process provided for in the relevant announcement.
The training activities form part of PLANBEE’s broader mission to revitalise rural communities through sustainable beekeeping, foster innovation and entrepreneurship, empower women in the sector, promote apitourism and encourage environmental stewardship throughout the Mediterranean region.
