After months of coordination and logistical preparations, the first international shipments of lentiviral vectors are expected to take place this July. The shipments represent a major milestone in the project’s mission to transfer CAR-T technology across the Mediterranean region.
During the latest consortium meeting of the MILenARI project, partners involved in the work package about production, scale-up and export shared an important update: after months of preparation, the first lentiviral vector shipments are now close to becoming a reality. As discussed, the team involved in the process is already in contact with the courier, and partners reported that preparations for the shipment are now in their final stages, with the remaining contractual and documentation requirements being finalized before the vectors can be dispatched.
Once delivered, the vectors will allow partner institutions to begin validating the manufacturing processes needed to implement CAR-T production locally.
The next step is to define how many GMP and GMP-like lentiviral vector bags each partner centre will receive, according to their validation plans and regulatory requirements. Because these requirements differ between countries, finalizing this allocation is essential before the remaining shipment documentation can be completed. Contracts and budget-related aspects are also being finalized, after which the courier will be able to prepare the international shipment.
If the remaining administrative steps proceed as planned, the first vector shipments are expected to take place in early July. This will mark the first transfer of lentiviral vectors within the project and represents a major milestone for the consortium.
The shipments will bring the consortium significantly closer to its goal of transferring CAR-T manufacturing technology and enabling advanced cell therapies across the Mediterranean region.
