SWAMED trained farmers in Türkiye on smart irrigation technologies that help reduce water and energy consumption while improving agricultural productivity.
The training session titled “Digitalization in Smart Agriculture: Irrigation Management” was held on 7 July 2026 at the Alanya Chamber of Agriculture Conference Hall within the scope of the SWAMED project.
The event opened with a welcome address and a brief introduction to the SWAMED project, its objectives, and the Alanya pilot activities. The training focused on smart irrigation technologies, soil moisture and NPK sensors, weather stations, irrigation automation, data-based decision-making and cost–benefit analysis. Participants were informed about sensor installation, maintenance, calibration, and the interpretation of soil moisture data.
Practical examples were presented to explain how smart irrigation systems can reduce unnecessary water and energy use while supporting more stable yield and product quality. The session also included questions and discussions with farmers.
Participants shared their experiences and concerns regarding irrigation practices, equipment costs, internet access, and the practical use of sensor-based systems.
The event concluded with participant interviews, closing remarks, and the collection of photographs and video materials for project communication and reporting purposes. At the end of the training course, each participant received a certificate proving that they had attended the training class.
