On 20 May 2026, the 5th Local Thematic Committee (LTC) meeting of the CAREMED Project, supported by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, was held and hosted by Izmir Provincial Health Directorate, project partner.

The CAREMED Project – Community-based Approach for Resilient Mediterranean Health, is co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme and led by Meyer University Hospital.

The meeting brought together healthcare professionals and local stakeholders involved in the CAREMED Project, reinforcing a shared commitment to improving health services and community wellbeing.

The discussion focused on practical approaches to better support people living with chronic respiratory conditions such as ‘Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease’ (COPD), with particular attention to improving prevention, care pathways, and continuity of support across services. Participants also exchanged views on how collaboration between primary care and specialist services can contribute to more effective and patient-centred care.

A further key point was the importance of strengthening digital health capacities. The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the technological infrastructure of local health centres, with the aim of supporting more efficient and accessible healthcare delivery.

The LTC meeting reaffirmed the value of working together across disciplines and institutions. Through cooperation, shared knowledge, and continuous improvement, CAREMED continues to support stronger health systems and more resilient communities across the region.
