Al-Balqa Applied University, the Jordanian partner of the EU-funded DIGIWAVE project, took part in the international conference “Education Towards the Future: Jobs of the Future”, held at The Westin Saraya Aqaba Resort & Spa. The event was organised by the University of Jordan in cooperation with Sebal Consulting and Studies, bringing together academics, experts and representatives of regional and international institutions to discuss the future of education, skills and employment.
Al-Balqa Applied University was represented by Dr Omar Suleiman Arabiyat, Dean of Al-Salt Technical College, who presented DIGIWAVE – Women Access Versatile Employment in Digital Economy.
During the second session of the conference’s third day, which focused on public-private partnerships for strengthening students’ skills, Dr. Arabiyat introduced DIGIWAVE as a Euro-Mediterranean initiative funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme. He highlighted the strategic role of Al-Balqa Applied University as the Jordanian partner in the project consortium, working alongside partners from Spain, Greece and Tunisia.
The presentation highlighted DIGIWAVE’s work to prepare women for the digital economy by promoting access to digital learning, advanced technological skills, entrepreneurship support, and inclusive pathways to future-oriented employment. Dr. Arabiyat stressed the importance of European cooperation in supporting skills development and helping women move towards sustainable, smart and labour-market-relevant careers.
The session, moderated by Dr Khaled Khreisat, generated active discussion among academics and representatives of participating institutions. Participants welcomed Al-Balqa Applied University’s role in strengthening cross-border cooperation and connecting international partnerships with applied education, skills development, and smart transformation.
Through its participation in the conference, BAU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting inclusive digital transformation in Jordan and across the Mediterranean, while contributing to DIGIWAVE’s wider mission of empowering women to access new opportunities in the digital economy.
DIGIWAVE is led by Jovesólides in Spain, in partnership with ActionAid Hellas in Greece, the Center of Arab Women for Training and Research CAWTAR in Tunisia, and Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan.
