Cagliari. The MedRESOURCE Italian project partners held on the 5th May 2026 a coordination meeting with the regional agency for agricultural development LAORE Sardegna. The University of Cagliari – CRENoS, ENAS – Ente Acque della Sardegna, and the agency LAORE Sardegna met to assess the feasibility of a possible collaboration within the MedRESOURCE project, with specific reference to both capacity-building (WP4) and experimental activities (WP3) at regional level.
The meeting involved managers and experts from LAORE’s Service for Livestock Supply Chains and Animal Welfare, a structure with specific responsibilities in technical assistance, training, monitoring and innovation transfer in livestock and agri-food supply chains. The Service plays a key role in supporting sustainable livestock systems, improving production quality, strengthening professional skills among operators, and addressing issues related to livestock effluents within a broader sustainability framework.
Within MedRESOURCE, this expertise is particularly relevant for the Sardinian Living Lab, located in the Arborea and Gulf of Oristano area, where agriculture, livestock farming, nutrient management and environmental pressures are closely interconnected.
In this context, discussions explored the potential involvement of LAORE in WP3 activities, with a focus on the pilot experimentation. In particular, the possible contribution of the Agency was considered in relation to the implementation and monitoring of field trials, the agronomic and environmental evaluation of results, and the assessment of conditions for scaling up the solutions tested within the project. LAORE’s technical support could be instrumental in ensuring that experimental outcomes are interpreted in light of real farming practices and territorial constraints, thus strengthening their applicability and replicability.
At the same time, the meeting addressed the possible role of LAORE within WP4, particularly in supporting capacity-building actions targeted at farmers, livestock operators and local institutions. This may include contributions to field-based learning activities, dissemination of technical knowledge, facilitation of dialogue with stakeholders and participation in international study visits aimed at fostering peer learning and exchange across Mediterranean regions.
The meeting was part of a broader WP3–WP4 integration effort, aimed at reinforcing the enabling conditions for the Sardinian Living Lab and ensuring a strong connection between experimentation, knowledge transfer and territorial uptake.
This dialogue reflects MedRESOURCE’s commitment to building an integrated and inclusive approach, where experimentation and capacity building mutually reinforce each other, supporting the transition towards more sustainable and circular agricultural systems in the Mediterranean.
