Adana, Türkiye – The GREENOLIVE project has reached a significant milestone: the installation of the photovoltaic system at the ASCHEM petrochemical facility in Adana is officially underway. Since work began on site, one third of the PV installation has already been completed. The remaining two thirds are expected to be finalised within two weeks.
The PV plant is a central component of the GREENOLIVE system. Once operational, it will supply electricity to electric heaters, which will in turn deliver heat at 300°C to the manufacturing process at the petrochemical facility. A thermal energy storage unit, made from locally sourced waste materials, will capture excess solar energy and release it when sunlight is unavailable, ensuring continuous supply without the need for conventional batteries.
The pilot plant represents the first demonstration of the GREENOLIVE concept at industrial scale. If successful, the configuration will be replicated in other sectors and regions across the Mediterranean, including textiles, agri-food, and residential applications.
