SALAM’s first newsletter shows how the project is already turning cooperation into concrete action across the Mediterranean. Published in June 2026, the issue brings together some of the first tangible steps taken by the partnership to improve access to healthcare in fragile and crisis-affected settings.
From a low-cost mechanical ventilator powered by a 12-volt car battery to biomedical research exploring medical implants made from discarded mussel shells, and a mobile clinic being prepared to serve isolated communities in South Lebanon, the newsletter offers an early look at how SALAM is moving from shared challenges to practical responses on the ground.
These first developments reflect the project’s broader effort to make healthcare more accessible, resilient and responsive where needs are greatest. They also show how partners in Italy, Lebanon, Spain and Jordan are combining research, procurement and field-based action to build solutions that can work in complex contexts.
