From planning to procurement: pyrolysis units on the way at three Mediterranean pilot sites
A key milestone is within reach for the Sludge2Energy project. In Cyprus, Türkiye and Jordan, partner organisations are completing the procurement processes that will lead to the installation of pyrolysis units at their respective wastewater treatment plants — the core technology that will convert solar-dried sewage sludge into renewable energy and biochar.
Cyprus — Contract expected by end of July
The District Local Government Organization of Larnaka (EOAL) has completed the evaluation of the offers received for its pyrolysis unit tender. A contract with the selected supplier is expected to be signed by the end of July 2026.
Türkiye — Award decision notified
Manisa Water and Sewerage Administration (MASKI) completed its evaluation process and notified bidders of the award decision on 26 June 2026. Contract signing is expected to follow once the mandatory 10-day objection period has elapsed.
Jordan — Open tender: proposals due 8 July 2026
The Aqaba Water Company (AWC) has issued a Request for Proposal for the design and construction of a complete pyrolysis unit at the North Aqaba Wastewater Treatment Plant (Contract No. 20/T/2026). The submission deadline has been extended to 8 July 2026 at 12:00 pm to allow bidders to obtain additional technical information, including sludge characterisation data. What comes next
Once contracts are signed and installations begin, the Sludge2Energy project will move into its operational phase — generating real-world data on energy recovery and biochar production from sewage sludge across four Mediterranean pilot sites in Cyprus, Türkiye, Jordan and Greece.
