SmartGreenEcos continued its SME engagement efforts in Cyprus with a meeting in Akaki, bringing together dairy-sector SMEs from the surrounding areas to discuss the project and its participation opportunities.
As part of its ongoing SME engagement efforts in Cyprus, SmartGreenEcos held a meeting in Akaki on 29 June 2026, bringing together four dairy SMEs from the surrounding areas to present the project and discuss participation opportunities.
The meeting formed part of the project’s broader outreach and mobilisation activities in Cyprus, as SmartGreenEcos continues engaging businesses that may become part of its Mediterranean ecosystem. Through direct contact with local enterprises, the project aims to build its next phase in close connection with real business needs and sector priorities.
During the meeting, the project team presented the main objectives of SmartGreenEcos and explained how the project aims to support agri-food businesses through practical services, cooperation and innovation. Particular emphasis was placed on the project’s first strategic focus on the dairy subsector and on the practical value that participation can create for SMEs.
Participants were introduced to the four core service areas that will be developed through the project: AI-based benchmarking and optimisation, capacity building for smart and green practices, digital procurement tools, and collaborative new product development support. These services are designed to help participating businesses strengthen their green and digital readiness, improve organisation and decision-making, explore new cooperation opportunities and contribute to the co-design and future use of the project’s tools.
The discussion also focused on some of the key challenges currently affecting dairy businesses, including rising production costs, energy use, sustainability requirements, competitiveness and the need for more structured digital and collaborative solutions. In this context, SmartGreenEcos was presented as a practical support framework built around the realities and priorities of the sector.
The Akaki meeting marked another step in the project’s outreach work in Cyprus and highlighted the interest of local businesses in learning more about how SmartGreenEcos can support their transition towards smarter, greener and more competitive ways of operating.
