As part of its ongoing SME engagement efforts in Cyprus, SmartGreenEcos held an outreach meeting in Athienou to present the project and discuss participation opportunities with representatives of the local dairy ecosystem.

The choice of Athienou as the meeting location was particularly fitting. Closely associated with Cyprus’ dairy tradition, Athienou has a longstanding connection with livestock farming, cheese-making and local dairy products, making it a relevant setting for a discussion focused on the future of the dairy sector.

During the meeting, the project team presented the main objectives of SmartGreenEcos and explained how the project aims to support agri-food businesses through practical services, cooperation and innovation. Particular emphasis was placed on the project’s first strategic focus on the dairy subsector, as well as on the practical value that participation can create for businesses in the sector.

Participants were introduced to the four core service areas that will be developed through the project: AI-based benchmarking and optimisation, capacity building for smart and green practices, digital procurement tools, and collaborative new product development support. These services are designed to help participating businesses strengthen their green and digital readiness, improve organisation and decision-making, explore new cooperation opportunities and contribute to the co-design and future use of the project’s tools.

The discussion also touched on some of the key pressures currently facing the dairy sector, including rising production costs, energy use, sustainability requirements, competitiveness and the growing need for more structured digital and collaborative solutions. In this context, SmartGreenEcos was presented not as a theoretical initiative, but as a practical support framework built around real business needs.

The Athienou meeting formed part of the project’s broader mobilisation efforts in Cyprus, as SmartGreenEcos continues reaching out to businesses interested in becoming part of its Mediterranean ecosystem. Through direct dialogue with sector representatives, the project aims to ensure that its next steps remain closely connected to the realities and priorities of dairy enterprises.

Businesses active in the dairy sector in Cyprus that would like to learn more about the project and participation opportunities are encouraged to contact the project team and follow the project’s upcoming updates and engagement activities.

SmartGreenEcos aims to build its next phase in close connection with real business needs. Through meetings such as this one in Athienou, the project continues to strengthen dialogue with the dairy sector and encourage businesses to take part in a smarter, greener and more connected future.
