The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (EZA) held the first meeting of the Local Green Ports Hub (LGPH) in Aqaba on the 10th of May, as part of the Green Ports Cluster for a Sustainable Mediterranean Maritime and Transport Ecosystem (GREENMEDPORTS) project, funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED program. The meeting was attended by numerous partners, stakeholders, and experts in the port and maritime transport sectors.

The meeting was opened by Commissioner for Environment and Public Security Dr. Nidal Al-Ouran, who emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships and coordination among the relevant port authorities to help translate the project’s objectives into practical steps within the Port of Aqaba, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and national plans for climate change and the blue economy.

The project aims to support the transition to sustainable and low-carbon port operations in the Mediterranean region by promoting cooperation in the development of green ports, sharing technical knowledge and best practices, and building cooperation networks between experts and stakeholders.
