WISEMED: Call for Applications Open in Italy to Select 20 Agricultural Beneficiaries

ICU launches a call under the WISEMED project to select 20 agricultural beneficiaries in Italy for activities on innovative water management solutions.

Within the framework of the WISEMED – Mediterranean joint Water management and conservation Sustainable solutions project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED programme, the Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria (ICU) has launched a call for applications to select 20 beneficiaries in Italy among farmers, members of producer organizations, agricultural companies, and cooperatives.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote innovative solutions for sustainable water resource management in Mediterranean agriculture. Selected participants will be involved in information, awareness-raising, and dissemination activities focused on efficient water use and the reuse of wastewater.

These activities are linked to the pilot action carried out by the Consiglio per la ricerca in agricoltura e l’analisi dell’economia agraria (CREA), a project partner. During the pilot, an open-source device for agricultural water management, developed by CREA-IT at its research center in Monterotondo (Rome), will be presented and demonstrated.

The WISEMED project aims to improve water-use efficiency in agriculture by promoting innovative irrigation techniques and the use of non-conventional water resources. It also includes dedicated “Infoday” sessions targeting farmers, producer organizations, associations, companies, and cooperatives to showcase the identified solutions and highlight their technical, economic, and environmental benefits.

Who can apply

The call is open to Italian farmers, agricultural companies, and cooperatives that:

  • face challenges related to water scarcity and/or salinity;
  • are interested in the themes addressed by the WISEMED project;
  • are willing to explore solutions for water-use efficiency and non-conventional water use.

Selection process and criteria

The selection will be conducted by ICU and CREA through:

  1. evaluation of applications;
  2. ranking of candidates;
  3. selection of the 20 most suitable beneficiaries.

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • level of exposure to water constraints and salinity;
  • need to strengthen technical skills;
  • interest in the proposed solutions;
  • motivation and willingness to participate in project activities;
  • cross-cutting criteria (priority given to candidates from Lazio, young farmers, and women farmers).

Priority will also be given to applicants who attend the information days.
