FOODGaP at the Doughnut Economics workshop: the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital presents the EU-funded project
The Metropolitan City of Rome Capital presented FOODGaP, an EU-funded Interreg NEXT MED project on local food governance, during the international workshop “Developing Food Policies with Doughnut Economics”. The event explored how food policies can support fairer, more inclusive and sustainable cities through participatory approaches and community engagement.

FOODGaP moves from capacity building to governance design and strategic collaboration in urban food policies
The international FOODGaP meeting held in Rome from May 5 to 7 brought together Mediterranean partners — including CIHEAM Bari, Città Metropolitana di Roma Capitale, Municipalità Metropolitana di Mersin, and EPLO — along with the associates ICLEI, METREX, Comune di Milano, and Metropolitan Area of Barcellona. The goal? To transform the lessons learned during the capacity-building process into a collective commitment, fostering a shared understanding of governance challenges and laying the groundwork for resilient and coordinated urban food governance models.

FOODGaP in Rome: A Bridge Between History and Future for Mediterranean Food Sustainability
Partners from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, and Lebanon will join in rome from 5-7 MAy to rethink food governance, tackling issues such as poverty and the shortening of supply chains, while empowering citizens to actively shape their own food future. Three days of sharing ideas and strengthening cooperation. FOODGaP is taking shape.

FOODGaP Chronicles – Circularity, Food Loss and Food Waste: Insights from the 3rd Capacity Building Webinar
On 18 February 2026, CIHEAM Bari hosted the third webinar of the FOODGaP Capacity Building Programme, bringing together experts, cities and practitioners to discuss circular approaches to food loss and waste. Through policy insights and practical experiences—from behavioural change in school canteens to food recovery hubs and municipal circular economy models—the session explored how cities can accelerate the transition toward sustainable and inclusive food systems.

Strengthening food policy through multilevel governance and participation in the FOODGaP project
Held on 4 February 2026 and led by the EPLO Institute for Sustainable Development, the second FOODGaP peer-learning webinar explored how effective food policies depend on strong governance systems, vertical coordination across levels, and meaningful participation. Drawing on experiences from international, metropolitan and local contexts, speakers highlighted the importance of clear mandates, structured collaboration and institutional continuity to deliver more coherent, inclusive and sustainable urban food systems.
